My name is Nakeisha Cody, and I'm an assistant provost here at Simmons University. In this capacity I have the privilege of working with and supporting students students as they continue their personal journeys to academic, career, and personal success.
At this time I am pleased to speak to you about International Women's Day, an annual global initiative that asks everyone around the world to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and to promote a global call to action for accelerating women's equality. Each year, International Women's Day has an overreaching theme and various missions.
The theme for the 2023 International Women's Day is to embrace equity. This particular theme embodies Simmons' mission, vision, and values, and truly resonates with me. I believe that the concept of equity is something we all need to think about, know, value, believe in, and embrace. As stated by the International Women's Day Organization, embracing equity means creating an inclusive world.
In addition, one specifically identified mission for this year's International Women's Day that I believe strongly aligns with Simmons educational goals is to shine a spotlight on activity uplifting and inspiring women to pursue goals without bias or barriers. Accordingly, to help recognize and celebrate international Women's Day, which is occurring tomorrow, March eighth,I ask that you shine a spotlight on Simmons University by remembering a faculty member, staff member, or student who made a profound impact on you.
Celebrate the ways that the University is currently inspiring our wonderful students to pursue their individual goals and dreams. Recognize the many achievements of our amazing graduates. Help to create an inclusive world in a way that feels right for you. And make a gift to the Simmons Fund to enable the University to continue our mission of providing transformative learning that links passion with lifelong purpose.
